Effect of bile acids on Candida in the digestive tract

"It was found that bile acids and their simple derivatives exhibit anti-Candida activity and even that bile acid has an anti-proliferative effect on Candida fungal species."

What is Candida?

Candidiasis is a fungal infection caused by a yeast (a type of fungus) called Candida. Some species of Candida can cause infection in people; the most common is Candida albicans. Candida normally lives on skin and inside the body, such as the mouth, throat, gut, and vagina, without causing problems. Candida can cause infections if it grows out of control or if it enters deep into the body. For example, it can cause infections in the bloodstream or internal organs like the kidney, heart, or brain. Source: CDC

Symptoms of Candida multiplying in the abdomen

  • bloating, especially when eating sweets
  • abdominal cramps
  • sense of fullness
  • irregular and dilute bowel movements

“If food is broken down in our digestive tract not through proper digestion but through fermentation and putrefaction, the beneficial gut flora in the stomach and intestinal wall are damaged. Overeating and a stressful lifestyle, when combined with too much coffee and carbohydrates, can disrupt the pancreas and the food that is broken down by fermentation can destroy the bacterial flora in the body. The shift in the proportion of bacterial flora is conducive to the development of various fungal diseases, including Candida. So instead of being infected, one of the Candida subspecies, which already has a low germ count, becomes rampant.”

It is worth intervening until the following chain reaction is triggered:

“If the gut flora is not in order, the food you eat cannot be broken down by the right enzymes, but is broken down by fermentation and putrefaction. The reduced digestive enzyme and bile production upsets the bacterial flora, which triggers Candida overgrowth, and then the many fermentation and putrefaction processes trigger intestinal mucosal irritation, which further impairs the bacterial flora and digestive enzyme production. The irritated gut wall can then leak all sorts of substances into the bloodstream, which can then cause joint and skin problems and food intolerances.”

The aim of the intervention is to improve digestion and maintain the intestinal flora, so that the complications mentioned above can be avoided.” This can be achieved by taking bile acid supplements, among other things, and in the case of fungal infections, the infection is cleared more quickly when taking bile acid capsules.” Source: Dr. Erika Balaicza
